WhyData Origin Story

After starting a business that relied on excellent service delivery from our suppliers for major events at large convention centers, sports arenas, and performing arts centers, the idea was born to develop a system to show and track the value of services delivered to multiple stakeholders -- a scoring system to demonstrate excellence in customer experience as a key measure of value.  This benefits customers and service providers, enabling both to understand what the things are (the products and services), why they are working or not working, and particularly, service characteristics that pinpoint the most important three of these, with continuous data analysis, visually displayed, to act on.  The concept is simple but proved very challenging to create such a solution.  However, uncovering how to build it could be applied to multiple industries and markets where service is provided.

WhyData began with two founders in Athens, Georgia.  Peter Murphy Gray and Mary Curtis brought a great idea and pinned it down into a software that can elegantly fit within large corporations that need to understand more about their customers.  He is an entrepreneur who experienced all the hard bumps with a group of investors who have patiently waited for the market to catch up with the idea.  WhyData spent its early years researching methods, models, and services, and enabled its grant-funded Georgia Technology Research Alliance collaboration of five major research universities, including the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. The purpose of this collaborative research was to develop an automated and novel neural-network driven software platform to measure, analyze, and make intelligent, informed decisions for predictive actions---for service sector industries.  The beta model was tested in the field with a large Anheuser-Busch distributor in Raleigh, NC.   The early AB Software Analytic Solution proved that it could improve sales throughput by -7-15% across its core customers.  This remarkable outcome of the beta model inspired the Founders to build WhyData and bring it to market.

The Challenge the founders experienced within the service industries, where humans, technology, and machines enable delivery of services, is that these services are too often esoteric, overly complex to capture and act on with repeatable, scalable data models.  These valuable service assets are uniquely intangible to place a quantitative value around, let alone apply metrics to score the value of the service experience in a continuous, automated solution.  However, service assets make up 75% of the United States' Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Tackle Industry Challenges like:

How effective is my service?

What is the value of the service, and/or services delivered?

Does my competitor’s service provide better business outcomes for my customers?

How can I prove that my company is worth the price we charge for my services?

Engaged with Academic partners, Services Subject Matter Expertise, Services Science, Statistic and AI/ -Neural-network models, WhyData created unique, protectable intellectual property, algorithms with statistical and scientific methods that are embedded inside the Ability Analytics Software Platform. The analytics solution uses, in part, “best practice” methods from 50 years of Service Science.
